SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Recently, I have written chapters and biographical essays for the Dictionary of Literary Biography, the Encyclopedia of Television and the Encyclopedia of Historic Chicago Women.

I have contributed articles and a book review to such journals as Research Strategies and Nine. I also will have a lengthy article published this summer in the Quarterly Review of Film and Radio.

Over the past 20 years, I have written a large number of video scripts for Fortune 500 companies, educational institutions, foundations and government agencies. One notable example is a recent quasi-documentary, Water: Our Renewable Resource, written for Commonwealth Edison and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District. This video will be used in junior high schools throughout the Chicago area.

I also wrote the script for an award ceremony honoring people and projects that have contributed to the improvement of the Earth’s environment and the lives of its inhabitants, this presentation was staged at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. in 1992.

I have written a number of articles and essays for magazines such as Chicago History, Screen, Chicago Film and Video and Sound and Communications.

I have written a number of retrospectives for the Museum of Broadcast Communication including the standing Edgar Bergen-Charlie McCarthy exhibit, the NBC Chicago retrospective and the WTTW 35th anniversary retrospective. I also wrote the historical essay on Chicago television for the Museum’s opening night gala.

MY APPROACH TO WORKING WITH STUDENTS

My approach to working with students reflects a strong emphasis on interpersonal relationships. In class, I think I create an open environment that leads to a dynamic interchange of ideas, that assists students in their studies and that promotes creativity. As a teacher and as an advisor, I also try to acquaint students with career options, assist them in establishing career goals and in developing plans that help them reach those goals. In essence, I think I function well as a mentor and I am willing to spend the time with students if they are willing to spend the time.

AND BY THE WAY

I know the Chicago broadcast market well and have had success in helping students find employment. I am also a big Chicago sports fan and Chicago history buff and enjoy talking with people about them.
