BioArt

BIO 101 Lab 10

Today's project will be a change of pace. We will be traveling to a science resource store where you will design your own biological art.

Assignment

l Your major task is to explore and have fun.

l Your secondary task is to create a piece of bioart. You should plan on getting the materials for your project today, not actually completing it. This bioart could be simple or complex. It could be cheap or expensive. (You will need to fund the project which will cost from $1-$5.)

You could buy tubes, balls, and other small parts to create a flat or three-dimensional model of a cell. You could use a piece of cork and some pins to outline a leaf. You could draw silhouettes of animals on dishes made out of leaves. You could create a three dimensional animal with electronic parts. Try looking at a bin of material until an inspiration hits you.

l Next week in lab be prepared to do Show and Tell with your bioart.

l The final task for this assignment is to describe an assignment you could give to a class based on materials you saw at the store. This assignment could be the project you did or another one you thought of.

Transportation

We will need to carpool. Arrangements will be made the week before the field trip. If possible, we will leave at 2:30 so that we have some extra time. The trip will take between 35 and 45 minutes; we should leave the store at 4:15 to get people back by 5:00.
