Professional Biography

Well versed in repertoire from the Renaissance to the twenty-first century, multi-keyboardist Patricia Lee performs on a variety of instruments that run the gamut from early harpsichords and virginals to synthesizers and samplers of the present day.  An accomplished pianist since a young age, Ms. Lee has also studied both harpsichord and organ, and has an active career that combines solo performance and teaching with a variety of ensemble playing, including accompanying, chamber music and orchestral keyboard work.  Her principal teachers at DePaul University were Mary Sauer (pianist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra) and Dr. B. Lynn Hebert, harpsichordist.

Ms. Lee is the principal keyboardist of both the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra and the Elgin (IL) Symphony Orchestra, and also performs frequently with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as an adjunct keyboardist, playing harpsichord, piano, celesta, organ, various electronic instruments, and keyboard glockenspiel. In her work at the CSO, Ms. Lee has performed with many world class conductors and soloists including Daniel Barenboim, Itzach Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, James Levine, Ton Koopman, Roger Norrington Nicholas McGegan, Jaime Laredo and Gil Shaham among others, and has participated in major recordings, including the sound track to “Fantasia 2000” for Walt Disney Pictures. She has twice been featured in solo roles at the Chicago Symphony, in 2004 as harpsichord soloist in the Petite Symphony Concertante by Frank Martin,  under the baton of Charles Dutoit, and in 2006 as organist in the Bach Cantata #35, under the baton of Franz Bruggen.  Ms. Lee has also performed on tour with the CSO, at the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland, and at Carnegie Hall in New York.

As a freelance orchestra keyboardist, Ms. Lee has performed in stage orchestras for several artists in the pop music world, including Bobby McFerrin, Hal Linden, The Moody Blues, Kansas and the cast of Beatlemania. She can also be heard on CD in two recent recordings;  “Music for Trumpet and Winds” (Albany Records) with trumpeter John Hagstrom (of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra) and the De Paul Wind Ensemble, and a recording of the works of Aaron Copland with the Elgin Symphony Orchestra on the Naxos label. In addition to her work as a performer, Ms. Lee maintains a full time teaching position at Saint Xavier University of Chicago where she is Associate Professor of Music and Director of Keyboard Studies.
